Famous companies are now using e-marketing to sell their products. To accomplish this, we understand the customer’s demand and display relevant ads at reasonable prices to convince them to make the purchase. This process actually proves to be easier for the customer and saves a lot of time.

Let’s find out in this article what e-marketing is and how it is used to complete the purchasing process.

The use of online marketing has become so prevalent to the point where you see ads for products on any website or on Facebook.

The e-marketing process involves specific steps. These steps aimed at persuading the customer to buy the product by analyzing patterns of search performed by him. In addition to knowing people’s interests and presenting things relevant to them. Many methods are also used to reach the target audience and provide convenience to the client with a smaller budget.

What are the advantages of e-marketing?

  • Reduces the huge costs that advertising campaigns need for traditional marketing.
  • Helps to quickly reach the target audience, thereby achieving results faster.
  • Identifies the customer’s needs through browsing analysis, and displays similar results. Thus, the client enjoys a wider range of choices.
  • Direct communication with the company,  and providing the best services to them by better understanding the customer’s wishes.
  • Improves the marketing process by analyzing the way the customer interacts with the product.

What are the types of e-marketing?

  • Marketing through social network sites:
Today most people use Facebook, Instagram, and other social media applications. In addition, some of them are delivering attractive content in order to draw the audience’s attention and focus to certain products.
  • Search engine ads:
These are the ads that appear when we search with search engines at the top and bottom of the page to the right. It is also called pay-per-click advertising because the advertiser makes payment only when the customer clicks on the ad.
  • Video marketing:
This type of e-marketing uses all types of Videos (educational, advertising, cultural) to promote products and attract new customers. This is done by setting  up professional videos showcasing your product and using several editing apps, and this is made possible with the help of editing experts.
  • Affiliate marketing:
It is the use of online marketers to promote products and convince customers to buy them. This transaction is carried out through three parties: the product owner, the affiliate marketer (publisher), and the affiliate marketing network, which is the intermediary between the product owner and the affiliate marketer.
  • Influencer marketing:
This is when influencers and owners of platforms viewed by a great number of people promote a product through their videos or posts. This method has been a huge success. It’s because people are influenced by the characters they like.

How did e-marketing rank high in today’s job market and what does its future look like from the point of view of one of the marketing experts in the Arab world

Marketing expert Sarah Shahid talked to us about her experience in the field of e-marketing, where Sarah began her journey in this leading field in large companies:“I have been working in the field of e-marketing for ten years, and it has witnessed remarkable developments since then. The main reason is the increasing rate of internet use in general and its use for shopping specifically.

For example: The increase in search rates has led to a noticeable tendency to rely on the use of search engine optimization (SEO). The same applies to the use of social media; therefore marketers tend to use it more as an essential part of the e-marketing strategy.

On the other hand, e-marketing will continue to witness many developments with the advent of such a large number of electronic stores. Also, the digital transformation adopted by many companies has led to an increasing need to use various forms and tools of e-marketing as the main method of increasing sales. This is what we are increasingly witnessing with our clients at the E-Dynamite agency.”

E-Marketing has become a leading field in the corporate world, and major commercial companies are promoting their products through the Internet and social media. It is a skill that needs to be learned and taught in order to convince customers of the quality and relevance of your products.

Mechelin Wehbi

Mechelin Wehbi: A Success Story

Meshleen Wehbi: A Success Story

Mechelin Wehbi: A Success Story

“I believe in women supporting women and I see only one direction for the road, which is forward.”

Mechelin Wehbi, the charismatic leader, inspires and motivates you to work harder in order to achieve your goals. She leaves no room for despair or failure and encourages you not to give up. But instead, learn from past experiences until you succeed and fulfill yourself.

It is noteworthy that Mechelin Wehbi is an agricultural engineer. Originally started studying media at the Syrian Virtual University, but did not complete her studies due to various reasons.

She now works in public relations in the United Arab Emirates. Which makes you in awe of how she was able to prove her competence without a relevant university degree. As a testament to her dedication and perseverance, she won the UAE Estesmarat Magazine Award for Individual Achievement in the field of public relations and communication in 2023.

Let us get to know more about this distinguished leader.

How would you like to introduce yourself to the Uplifting Syrian Women community?

I am a young Syrian woman from a beautiful village called Qatina. I believe that continuous effort will eventually yield results. I have worked and struggled to achieve my dreams in spite of difficult circumstances.

I rejoice in any achievement of women, however small. Especially those of Syrian women, as I believe they are natural-born heroes. I strive and take pride in highlighting the successes of Syrian women through the segment featuring success stories on the initiative’s website.

There is no room for despair or giving up in your life, so how did Mechelin get rid of the mindset of failure?

There is no despair as long as we’re living and continuously trying. Even if we don’t achieve our goals, we must learn from experiences and how to avoid remaking past mistakes. Every ambitious and hardworking person is destined to reach the dreams that they’re pursuing. Surrendering serves no good and in the end, life goes on. We are constantly racing against time, and so we must always strive for the best. I only see one direction in every aspect of my life, and that is forward.

You obtained a degree in agricultural engineering, but you work in the media field where you have proven yourself in a distinctive way. How did your journey in the media field begin?

Agricultural engineering was the best fit for my overall high school score, which is how the majority of Syrian students choose their majors. As for the media, it has been my personal passion and goal. My interest in the Arabic language since school and continuous improvement of its skills has helped me present myself as a writer and a linguistic editor.

I began my journey in the field of media when I was involved in the process of reviving the newspaper “Homs” (which is the oldest newspaper in Syria since 1909) electronically. As its real-life location was destroyed by war. The task was of high responsibility due to the reputable name of the newspaper, its prestigious history, its authenticity, and its place in the memory and hearts of the people of Homs.

At the same time, I began working for the magazine “Shbabeeki”, where I contributed to writing a variety of content. The closest to my heart was the section featuring success stories in Syria. Because I always believe that each of us has an inspiring story and a unique journey that should be highlighted.

Who supported you on your journey in the media?

Honestly, I did not find any support at the beginning. My family rejected the idea of me studying media in university and persistently guided me towards studying agricultural engineering. However, that did not discourage me, and I continued to pursue my passion alongside my studies.

I also cannot overlook the role of the people whom I worked with and who gave me the opportunity to gain experience. I would like to give a shout-out to Carol Zakhour, the founder of the Uplifting Syrian Women Initiative. She believed in me from the very beginning and supported my vision and ideas. Together, we worked on perfecting the quality of the written content of the initiative to its current level, and we will not stop at any limit.

What is your advice for young people who are studying majors that do not align with their interests – which is something that you went through?

First of all, each of us has our own unique experiences and circumstances that must be taken into account. However, from my personal experience, I did not think of my agricultural engineering studies as a waste of time. On the contrary, I always focused on the positive aspects and paid attention to things that could benefit me. At the same time, I did not hesitate to pursue my ambition and passion for the media. I was able, and still strive, to develop my experience and improve my skills in this field.

Therefore, I encourage everyone to carefully make the best out of their surrounding circumstances. They should never give up on their dreams, no matter how long it takes to achieve them.

You are now also working in public relations in the United Arab Emirates, and you received an individual award in this field in 2023. Would you like to talk more about that?

There is a saying that I love, which encapsulates the significance of public relations. It says, “Everything we say or do is public relations”. Public relations works to connect the client with other parties. In addition, guide them to the companies and services that serve their interests best according to their business needs. This includes the media that conveys the different experiences and services that the client can provide to their customers, based on their demands and needs.

It is the responsibility of public relations specialists to be well-educated. As they may work for a client in the field of economics. So they must possess sufficient knowledge in economics and management science to be able to work with that client. The same applies to a client working in the art industry, and so on and so forth. The nature of the work of public relations will vary according to the nature of the organization and clients worked with. So there might be public relations specialists who work in the lifestyle industry, which includes art, fashion, and entertainment venues such as restaurants and gardens. There are also public relations specialists who work in the corporate sector, business, and startups. Public relations is an integral part of the work media does. Healthy business relationships are a mutual benefit for all parties involved.

What are some of the positive and negative aspects of working away from your homeland, and how have you achieved success in your work despite the significant challenges in the Emirati labor market?

Every young person who moves away from their home country will face challenges. But the difficult circumstances of my country ultimately led me to immigrate. This has made my personality stronger and increased my ability to make accurate and logical decisions. Additionally, to bear the consequences of my decisions regardless of what they might be.

This is why we must work on turning every negativity or difficulty we encounter into something that we can benefit from in our journey. As for the Emirati labor market, it is one of the largest and most advanced markets in the world. It is a highly competitive one, where you can find talents from all over the world. With people holding degrees from prestigious universities, speaking different languages, and possessing many skills. Therefore, one must be well prepared in order to be able to survive and succeed in it.

You mentioned in an interview with SUBORO TV that your Arabic language is very good. Tell us more about the works and writers that are closest to your heart.

I’ve always loved reading since I was little. My father had a library.  I clearly remember, when I was no older than 12 years old the first novel I read was “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens. It is an incredibly rich and influential novel.

I also loved classic Arabic poetry. I used to discuss the meanings of poetic verses and the stories behind poems with my grandfather, may his soul rest in peace. Among my favorite novelists are Gabriel Garcia Marquez, especially his novel “Chronicle of a Death Foretold,” and Dostoevsky for his deep and moving work.

Proper upbringing yields results, and an avid reader will inevitably become a writer someday. It was also an honor for me to meet the great Syrian writer (Khaled Khalifa), may his soul rest in peace, and learn from his immense experience in literature, history, and life during three writing workshops. The result of these workshops was my first literary work “When the Sun Rises After” published in a collection of short stories titled “We Write to Survive” under the supervision of the inspiring writer (Salwa Zakzak).

How has the Uplifting Syrian Women Initiative impacted your professional and personal life?

The initiative is an integral part of my daily and personal life and my dreams. It represents everything I believe in and aspire to be a part of, from creating a safe space for women and helping them with whatever they may need help with, to working towards raising societal awareness and contributing to creating a better world.

On a professional level, my current job is a direct result of the experiences and skills I developed while working with the Uplifting Syrian Women Initiative as the head of the Content Writing and Public Relations Teams.

What is your advice for women in general?

My golden advice for women in general, from my perspective, is to not simply justify outcomes with failure but to analyze and understand the experience and benefit from it on the way to success. Do not use surrounding circumstances as an excuse to not achieve what we aspire to. The opportunity will not come at your doorsteps, you have to go out and strive to find it.

What are your upcoming goals?

My upcoming goals are to maintain my responsibilities in developing both the content writing and public relations sectors of the initiative and to support the exceptional teams in each of them. Here, I would like to express genuine gratitude to each and every one of them. They are an integral part of my journey and have a special place in my heart.

I aspire to further develop my skills in the field of public relations and also return to writing and journalism. As for the big dream, it’s writing a novel.

Reem Missi

Reem Missi

Reem Missi: A Success Story

Reem Missi had a remarkable journey that deserves to be recognized. Motivated by Nelson Mandela’s words: “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul…”.

She made her decision joyfully to leave behind the fields of engineering and big corporations. And enter the world of children, art, and colors. Reem Missi, the founder of the “Artokids” club, is a place where talent is nurtured with love.

How does Reem Missi introduce herself to the “Uplifting Syrian Women” community?

I am grateful for this exceptional opportunity to introduce myself through the “Uplifting Syrian Women” initiative. As a woman and a Syrian, I appreciate your kindness in giving me a space to share my story and my project with you. My name is Reem Yacoub Missi, and I have been living in Qatar with my family since 1982.

I have twin daughters who are nine years old. I studied civil engineering at Tishreen University in Latakia, Syria. Then, I worked in Qatar at Khatib and Alami Engineering Consulting Company. Later, I embarked on a journey in this vast and enjoyable world and specialized in project and risk management with private banks.

How did the idea of the “Artokids Club” start? Tell us about your project journey

Art has always been my passion.  I dreamed of incorporating it into my working life, no matter where I lived. Life has a way of surprising us with unexpected opportunities, and that’s what happened to me. I had to pause my work in engineering temporarily due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. I decided to use this time to do something useful and enjoyable, and some of my friends asked me to teach their children how to draw online.

I was determined and enthusiastic to make my idea a reality. With the help of my brother, George Missi, who is an amazing graphic designer. He has a podcast about all kinds of arts, we created the visual identity of the club. We chose the name, logo, and all the visual designs for the social media platform, as well as the physical materials such as prints and boxes for drawing tools, advertisements, posters, etc.

I owe a lot to my parents and my family, who have supported me since childhood and continue to do so. They have always believed in our abilities and helped us develop our talents. They have also provided us with all the facilities to achieve our goals. This had a huge impact on our success and our passion for our work, whatever it is, in our respective fields.

I also appreciate the support of my husband, daughters, and friends in “Artokids Club”. They trusted me from day one. For over a year and a half, they have been attending my drawing classes for their children and other activities. I am also grateful for the trust of all my students and everyone who has interacted with the services offered by Artokids.

Have you faced any criticism or discouragement in your career? How did they affect you and how did you handle them?

No matter what you do or where you are, there will always be some criticism of your work. But not everyone who disagrees with you is a hater of your success. For example, in my experience, I didn’t face much criticism. But rather some warnings to be prepared for the challenges and not to get sucked into them. I consider myself lucky and blessed by God to have this much love and attention.

Tell us about the role of your father, the architect and visual artist Yacoub Missi in your career

My father instilled in us a love of art. He never guided our hands to draw or sculpt. But he let us watch him create his artwork with colors or clay. He always asked for our opinion on his artistic projects. Not only to take it into consideration, but also to create a meaningful dialogue that enriched our thinking, knowledge, and self-confidence.

Every member of my family paints, including my mother, brother, and sister. The dining table was not only a place to gather for meals, but also our own drawing studio, and still to this day. In short, we learned art as a way of life.

During my university years, I joined the Center for Fine Arts in Latakia where my father learned art before going to Turkey to get his degree in architecture. He shared with me many of his stories about the beginnings of his career in sculpture. That’s what made me aware of the fundamentals of art and how to practice it. My father is now an actual partner in “Artokids”. He assists me with all the preparations before the workshops as well as the art products that we offer.

Tell us about Reem Missi, the wife, the mother, and the manager. What are the obstacles and challenges that you faced? And how did you overcome them?

The challenges are still big… and every time I make progress, new challenges emerge.

One of these challenges is time management, as the drawing classes in “Artokids” start in the evening. And as a mother, I am very attentive to my daughters’ studies. So this clash of schedules is a major challenge that puts me in a dilemma of “to be or not to be”. Should I keep up with the double effort of balancing my time or stop? Thank God, I was able to combine my motherhood and work in the best way possible for a year and a half.

The other challenge is expanding, which I still struggle with, but I believe that everything has its right time.

What is the most important thing that “Artokids Club” offers? Besides developing talents and skills. Tell us about the interactive sessions for mothers and their children. what do you think of their impact on them?

Artokids is a small project that is still growing and offering many services. The first one is teaching drawing to children and adults. A box of various drawing tools is provided at the start of registration. Also, we conduct art workshops for ladies, children, mothers, and children.

We participate in many events and activities in Qatar through Artokids, such as schools and celebrations. Also, we do drawing activities and also sell artistic products made by the whole family, including my daughters.

Everything you share with your child for the purpose of artistic, scientific, or cultural enrichment is a treasure in the depths of your soul, mind, and wisdom. When talent is polished with love… it will give back a lot.

What are Reem Missi’s dreams and goals for the future?

To tell you the truth, as much as I love drawing, I also love writing. I have many thoughts that I hope to publish someday. My goal is to move towards achieving my biggest dream, which is to create a cultural club. There, I can bring the warmth and richness of my parents’ dining table, where we share the art and stories, to a wider audience. I want it to be a fun and safe space for women and families, where they can join and develop their culture and hobbies, such as writing, reading, drawing, sculpting, and much more.

I know that planning is the key to success, but I also believe in that power that slowly seeps into your soul and whispers to you that it’s time for a bigger leap. I will keep planning and living passionately and consciously every day and wait for that whisper.

What are the tips that you would like to share with women who have ambitions and are still looking for their path?

Believe in yourselves, and learn from everything, big or small. Do not lose hope no matter how much time has passed, for time is just a number, but age is what we do and achieve. Look for successful models in your environment and learn from them. I have seen many models and many women who inspired me in my life, and my closest model is my mother who persisted in getting her university degree when I was a little girl, so she left me with my father in Qatar to go to Damascus to take her exams until she graduated.

I remember my sister, a mother of three studying at school and university, who attended the University of Fine Arts in Lebanon and received the distinction and the university president’s award.

What is the quote that Reem Missi thinks summarizes the journey and enlightens the path?

I am thankful to God, to the family that he gave me, to the comrades, to the honorable models in my life, to the bad luck, to the resurrection that followed the fall, to the coming failure and the rise that will follow it. To the constant search for a life worth living, and to the experiences that helped me a lot to build new skills.

The quote that I always remember in my moments of fatigue is by Nelson Mandela: “It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”

Maryana Marrash

Maryana Marrash- A Woman of History

Maryana Marrash

Maryana Marrash- Woman of History

We will tell the story of the poet Maryana Marrash. Originally from Aleppo, she devoted all of her energy to empowering Syrian women and developing Syrian society.

Recently, people have tarnished the image of the Syrian woman from earlier times. They have described her as a closed-off person who lacks education, culture, and literature. However, she was fortunate that history has been fair to her. Particularly, it has documented all her achievements and successes that have helped her society.

In this article, we will be talking about the first Syrian Arab woman to publish a collection of poetry. And to extend invitations to literary gatherings.

Who is Maryana Marrash?

Maryana Fateh-Allah Marrash was a Syrian writer and poet. She was born in Aleppo in July 1848 and passed away in 1919 at the age of seventy.

During the Ottoman rule, Marash lived in a society that banned girls’ education. In addition to the mingling of men and women for any purpose. As a result, various areas of practical and scientific life have subjected women to ignorance. As pursuing science was limited to men only. However, the community in Aleppo experienced significant cultural and literary prosperity at that stage.

Mariana came from a family known for their work in trading. She worked hard for women’s empowerment and defended their right to education. Mariana’s father insisted on educating his three children (Francis, Abdallah, and Mariana). So, he had built up a large private library in his home, called the Marrash Library. In order to give his children a thorough education. Particularly in the field of Arabic language and literature.

The Early Life of Mariana Marash

Like her brothers, Mariana went to school. Her brothers were famous for their cultural work. Her brother Francis was influenced by Al-Kawakibi and Tahir al-Jazairi. He called for the implementation of the Constitution and encouraged liberalism as he was one of the first Arabs in its ranks. He greatly influenced Mariana. His death extremely saddened her she composed an elegy to lament his death. Her Brother Abdallah was a rebellious journalist who published his articles in foreign newspapers (French and British newspapers).

The family house was a place for the gathering of Aleppo’s writers and intellectuals. This cultural atmosphere gave Mariana a greater motivation to acquire science and develop her literary skills. Mariana went to a French missionary school in Aleppo at a time when girls’ education was reprehensible, and then she went to an English school in Beirut.¹

Maryana loved the French language, as she received her education in French in Aleppo as well as in Beirut, and she got to know French society through its literature and knowledge. The French revolutionary principles in French life and literature influenced her, and she dreamed of visiting France to transmit French cultural principles to Arabic society.

On the other hand, she excelled in music, sang beautifully, and played the Piano and Qanun. It is clear that Marrash’s family support, and her father’s insistence on educating and developing her literary, musical, and scientific skills led to enriching both Syrian and Arabic society.

Maryana Marrash’s literary works

Maryana worked on liberating women intellectually and culturally so she could uplift Arabic society in general. She conveyed many literary and liberating ideas that she noticed in French society, among them:

  • The Literary Salon:

Although the gathering of men and women in one salon was a reprehensible activity at that time, Mariana turned her house into a gathering place for them and she was the first to apply this idea in Arab society. Among the most prominent participants in these cultural gatherings: Rizkallah Hassoun, Qustaki al-Himsi, Gabriel al-Dallal, and Kamel al-Ghazi, in addition to prominent Aleppine intellectuals of both sexes and politicians and members of the foreign diplomatic corps.

Since most of the participants were regular visitors to her family’s home, it was easy for her to invite them. During these gatherings, a lot of literature, music, political and social issues were discussed, and chess and card games were played.

Some of the discussed topics were: Mu’allaqat and the works of Francis Rabelais.

  • Newspaper Articles:

Maryana is one of the first Arab women who published their work in Arabic magazines and newspapers using their real name. Her first article was “The Beauty Spots of the Garden “² which was published in Al-Jinan journal in 1870, volume “15” in its first year of publishing; where she presented critical subjects for literary work in that era.

Her articles are followed in “Lisan al-hal” magazine, where she touched on societal themes; she urged Syrian people to abandon the manifestations of ignorance in prevailing customs and traditions, women’s right to education, and apply the useful cultural manifestations from different nations to advance Syrian society.

Mariana’s articles were not primitive, as she used creative literary language. She urged the reader to take inspiration from the article draw useful points and discuss with the reader realistically to reach her goal. In addition to presenting various cultural images to urge her readers to develop the society intellectually, culturally, and socially.

Intellectual works of Mariana

Mariana had many works that varied between literary and intellectual. She wrote poetry, as she was influenced by her brother and the writers and poets who were regular visitors to her Salon.

She was one of the first Arab female poets, and her first and only collection of poetry “Bint fikr”3 (A Daughter of Thought) was published in Beirut in 1893.

It was the first poetry collection of a Syrian woman and was titled “A Daughter of Thought” because it resulted from an instinctive diverse thought that every human being has. She called, through it, for love, reflection, and liberation from the backward mainstream, and she dedicated her collection of poetry to Sultan Abdul Hamid II. She also described in her poetry her situation and the harassment she suffered because of her open mind.³

We also mention one of her intellectual works (The History of Modern Syria) in which she talked about Syrian history during the late Ottoman rule.

Syrian women excelled in multiple fields, delivering their voices strongly to the entire world. Our pioneer Maryana Marrash is another star in the sky of Syria’s creative pioneers and lit the darkness with all of her might, and her impact remains clear and evident to this day.

She said: ” Why don’t we leave slackness and laziness, be productive and start working? We are the women of the nineteenth century which has surpassed all of the other centuries in civilization. How can we not show men the necessity of women in the gardens of literature?”⁴

Culture of non-violence

Culture of Non-violence

Culture of non-violence

Culture of non-violence

The culture of non-violence is a source of hope. Not only because it combats physical aggression, but also promotes compassion, empathy, and peaceful conflict resolution. This manifests through individuals who appreciate the importance of mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace.

“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.”¹

What Is The Culture of Non-Violence?

Gandhi believed that the culture of non-violence is the greatest power in human hands. Even more powerful than the weapons of destruction that their minds created. It is a method that rejects the use of violence to achieve social or political change.

This enables people to go through their struggle for freedom without resorting to violence. Adopting a culture of non-violence is not only a way to avoid conflicts but also to act effectively, especially in politics.  It can be considered a culture that distinguishes humans from other creatures. As it requires rationality and rejects resorting to violence in solving problems.

As we live in an unstable time, with weapons of mass destruction and nuclear powers, humanity is at risk of extinction. Therefore, the culture of non-violence is key to resolving problems and conflicts peacefully. It is a means to achieve a state of coexistence and understanding of others.

Every year, October 2nd marks the International Day of Non-Violence. Which coincides with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the founder of the culture of non-violence.²

The Advantages of A Culture of Non-Violence

  • The method used to resolve conflicts that reject the use of physical force or aggression. Thus reducing wars and conflicts.
  • It promotes social justice and equality, understanding, and cooperation among individuals and communities.
  • It aims to address injustice, promote social acceptance, and build sustainable peace through peaceful means.
  • Resorting to the rationality that distinguishes humans from others characterizes it, as it minimizes human, material, and natural losses.
  • It does not cause harm, unlike violence, whose effects extend to harm many innocents.
  • Movements and organizations worldwide have adopted it as a method in campaigns aimed at achieving social justice, describing it as the policy of ordinary people.²

The Importance of Adopting A Culture of Non-Violence

We cannot overlook the necessity of adopting a culture of non-violence. In order to preserve humanity, our planet, and every living individual.

Its necessity lies in the fact that it protects against the severe harm caused by violence to its victims. The effects of violence are numerous. For example, it leads to an increase in suicide cases. And the accompanying psychological damage to survivors, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders. They are also prone to suffering from various chronic physical illnesses such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and others.

How Is Violence Treated?

  1. Enacting laws and imposing penalties against all kinds of violence. This includes providing job opportunities for women within a suitable and safe environment. Which will reduce the economic violence they are subject to and make them financially independent.
  2. Protecting children from the domestic violence they might be exposed to. And encouraging them to seek help if they are exposed to any form of it. This will definitely reduce the violence against children.
  3. Normalizing resorting to psychologists, especially for teenagers who display violent behavior or bully their peers.
  4. Supporting victims and survivors of violence, and providing them with appropriate treatments.³

What Are The Means of Non-Violence?

There are many means that help establish a culture of non-violence. For example: adopting practices of dialogue and mutual understanding with different parties. Peaceful demonstrations such as boycotts, festivals, civil disobedience, and strikes are also non-violent methods.

Many other types of non-violent demonstrations can be adopted. Whether in the cultural and artistic, or political and economic sense. They have a profound impact on society.⁴

As individuals, we can introduce the culture of non-violence into our daily lives. As a means of resolving our disagreements and problems. By controlling our reactions when insulted, or ignoring those who provoke us. In addition, staying away from quarrels by all means. We can also choose to engage in a dialogue with others to solve the problems we face.

Ultimately, a culture of non-violence is about recognizing our shared humanity. In addition to working together to create a more peaceful and equitable world for all.

By adopting non-violence in our daily lives and communities, we can help build a better future for ourselves and the next generations.

What is Sustainability?

What is Sustainability?

What is sustainability?

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability, in its simplified definition, means maintaining good usage of environmental and humanitarian resources. Without compromising the ability of future generations or communities to achieve their goals while providing the best results.

Sustainable development framework ” The three E’s” aims to increase the well-being of communities and raise awareness about the changes that affect our planet. Because of the irresponsible use of resources. And emphasizes the need to create awareness about the damages humans will face in the future if sustainability is not approached responsibly.

All in all, it contributes to achieving peace and stability for humans.

What is sustainability?

The word sustainability originated from “permanence”, i.e. keeping something permanent and balanced. As it remains available and accessible with the succession of generations, they don’t have problems looking for it. This term has created many challenges and a sense of responsibility towards future generations.

The conservation of existing resources is not only the responsibility of governments but also an individual responsibility. In which everyone should participate. Scientists are still studying and have not yet guaranteed life on another planet. It is everyone’s duty to contribute and join hands in finding alternatives and solutions. So that available resources on our planet today will be available for later.

With that, we can achieve the best results, whether the resources are humanitarian, environmental, or economic. Everyone can participate in the sustainability process. Family is the cornerstone of sustainable development, doing simple steps that each member of the family does.

Sharing makes large consumption of resources less burdensome. It becomes more than just actions carried out by individuals to turn into a lifestyle they follow from a young age.

When did the term sustainability appear and what is its framework?

The term sustainability first appeared in the 1980s. In 1987, the Bretton Land Committee defined “sustainability” as: “Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”¹ Based on that, the United Nations has raised the banner of sustainability.

It also saw it as a real necessity, especially for developing countries. There are 140 countries still looking for ways of development. But it’s associated with the risk of environmental damage and climate change. Which in turn threatens future generations.

The United Nations worked to develop the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are considered the solutions for reaching comprehensive sustainability in all aspects. It has become the main focus for researchers and scientists and is being applied by many countries. Initially, the term sustainability was essentially an environmental term. It meant the conservation of the planet’s resources. But later it was divided into three main interlinked axes:

Economic axis: means the economic ability to support a specific level of economic production. In addition to ensuring that economic systems support sustainable, social, and environmental outcomes. It also constitutes the principle and basis of the sustainable development process. This is due to the fact that it provides various tools of modern technology to reach sustainable development goals.²

Environmental axis: preserving environmental resources, in addition to minimizing the negative impact on them so that we ensure their continuity. We must protect forests, freshwater, and animals as they are considered essential parts of our environment. Therefore, it calls for reducing pollution and supporting biodiversity because of its role in ecological balance.³

Social axis: Supports the ability of communities to create a good and viable environment. As well as eradicate poverty and hunger. It is about creating a comfortable working atmosphere within companies, searching for the pros and cons in the company to contribute to improving overall productivity.⁴

How can we protect our planet?

Sustainability, primarily environmental, has become of great importance. That’s because of the fateful challenges our planet is facing, for example: climate change, loss of biodiversity, and loss of existing wealth. We need to act more wisely and remain aware of these changes. Thus, researchers and organizations such as the United Nations have taken decisions to combat it.

People held conferences. They demonstrated many steps that can reduce negative impacts on the environment. Some of these steps include:

  • Reliance on renewable energy: Instead of using fossil fuels, renewable energy has been used in many countries around the world. Wind, solar, and other renewable energy sources can reduce emissions, thus contributing to a clean and sustainable future.
  • Waste reduction and recycling: Thoughtful waste disposal helps reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Since they need more energy to get rid of and increase the percentage of pollution.
  • Use environment-friendly transportation: Everyone can use a bicycle or walk. In addition to using electric cars, which have been heavily relied on in the recent period. Some developed countries have offered great facilities to the users of electric vehicles. For example: free parking and providing a network of charging stations with fast-charging technologies.

How does sustainability make peace?

Peace has been a global demand and goal that humans have endeavored ever since. Conflicts and wars continue to prevent it from happening, they also spread racial, sectarian, and other types of discrimination. It has become necessary to strengthen trust among people of the same country. So violence and racism are renounced, and bonds of love and cooperation are strengthened for the interest of all.

The peace-building process encompasses multiple activities at many levels, it requires interaction between leaders and society. Therefore, Peace-building is a sustainable and dynamic process at many levels. Hence, the United Nations has set the idea of peace as one of its main objectives.

It dedicated SDG 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions) to reach sustainable peace. Called for the need to end wars and conflicts around the world. In addition to focusing on building the institutions on which those States are based and in accordance with a just system.⁵

In the end, achieving sustainability is a general idea that has a lot of goals. It requires the solidarity of individuals and countries according to global systems and well-thought-out plans. Its main goal is to protect the planet from dangers, the results of which will be visible to future generations.

Proofreading: A Guide to Freelancing

Let’s explore “Proofreading” as one of the most prominent freelancing careers.

Language is a remarkable human achievement that reflects our culture and knowledge. It has complex and elegant systems and rules that produce meaningful and expressive forms. Language records the emotions, history, and discoveries that humans have accumulated over time.

Proofreading is a profession that is concerned with producing language in its most aesthetic and refined forms. It aims to correct and improve texts in terms of structure, expression, and eloquence. Our Arabic language is one of the most sophisticated languages. A single word has multiple meanings, and multiple words can convey the same thing. It is also a derivational language, with meanings derived from its roots and morphological system. Moreover, its writing system is the most advanced one, as we only write what we pronounce, and rarely ever do we pronounce letters that are not written.

Proofreading the Arabic language thus requires a lot of precision and diligence to convey the intended meaning of the writer. It has increasingly become an important online job that many people pursue as a freelance career.

“Proofreading Arabic language” as a freelance career

Back in the day, Arabic language proofreaders mostly worked in publishing houses and media outlets. But now, the Internet has created more opportunities and made it easier and faster to access them.

Therefore, new challenges have emerged for proofreaders. Since most of the content on the Internet is written or read, the text must be corrected to convey the information accurately and eloquently.

A single misplaced punctuation mark in the Arabic language can mess up the meaning of the whole sentence. Much less if it was a spelling, grammatical, or rhetorical error. Therefore, the role of an Arabic language proofreader is vital. Proofreading has become an indispensable job that has easier conditions, with the help of modern technologies.

This guide will provide you with the necessary skills to start your aspired career in Arabic language proofreading. We will also show you how to improve those skills and list a step-by-step roadmap for proofreading.

Skills of an Arabic language proofreader

As a proofreader of the Arabic language, you should possess a knowledge of the following:

Grammar:

You should know the grammatical functions of words and the correct way to write them so that their meaning reaches the reader accurately.
You should also put the grammatical marks in their appropriate places, such as nominative, accusative, and genitive cases, or omitting a vowel letter.

Spelling:

An essential skill for proofreading, and one you should keep up to date. For example, the Egyptian Language Academy approved writing “maswuwlia” (the Arabic meaning of the word “responsibility”) in a certain way that the Arabic Language Academy in Damascus did not approve.

This requires you to heed the appropriate spelling approved for each country, according to the party you are working with.

Also, adjusting punctuation marks is vital; because they indicate the meanings of sentences, and have their importance in e-articles according to the rules of SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Rhetoric:

This is where your creative sense shines. Rhetoric involves reformulating clumsy sentences, choosing eloquent words, and arranging the words of the text in a good way.

Formatting:

You should have a full understanding of the appropriate text formats for the content, as the formatting of a story differs from the formatting of an electronic article.

Steps for proofreading of the Arabic language

As a proofreader of the Arabic language, you should follow these steps when proofreading any text (These steps apply to proofreading all languages):

  1. First, read the text as a whole.
Reading the text helps you understand it, which is essential for correcting and proofreading it linguistically, grammatically, and punctually. This is a must-do.
  2. Second, divide the text into paragraphs.
Usually, the text should be divided into smaller paragraphs, as long paragraphs are not preferable, and dividing the text makes it smoother to read.  Then, you should proofread each part with greater accuracy.
  3. Third, format the text.
  4. Finally, format the layout of the text in a way appropriate for its content.

What are some information sources for Arabic language proofreaders?

When proofreading the Arabic language, you should consult several sources to verify your information. Some of these are:

  • Heritage books, such as: Shatha Al-Arf Fi Fan Al Sarf by Ahmad al-Hamlawi. And As Sarf Al-’Arabi: Ahkam wa Ma’ani by Fadil al-Samarrai.
  • Grammar books, such as: Jami’ Ad Durus Al-Arabiyah by Mustafa al-Ghalayini. And Mukhtasar An Nahou by Abdul Hadi al-Fadli.
  • Spelling books, such as: Al-Kafi Fi Qwaid al Imla wal Kitabah by Ayman Abdel Ghani. You can find all these books and more on the website (Al-Maktabah Ash-shamela).

The importance of this career

As we mentioned, opportunities are more varied now thanks to the Internet, as you can market yourself to the whole world by showing samples of your work. Proofreading, in particular, has expanded beyond the scope of publishing houses and audiovisual media centers to a much broader one. It now involves editing content on electronic websites, audio recording sites, YouTube and other social media platforms, and much more. This is done to refine the language and ensure the accuracy of the content and message behind it before publishing it.

In sum, the fields of freelance proofreading include:

  • Editing articles for electronic websites.
  • Editing texts for YouTube videos.
  • Transcribing and editing audio clips.
  • Editing articles for social media sites.
  • Editing books, novels, and scientific research.

Thus, a proofreader works to ensure that the message is delivered from the creator to the recipient in a clear and correct way.

A glimpse of the journey of a proofreader

Everything considered, a proofreader must have an understanding of the underlying meanings, not just the superficial ones of grammar and spelling, as the message lies in the nuances between words.

The journey of “Alaa Abou Jahjah” in proofreading began at the Faculty of Arts, Department of Arabic Language. There, she learned about the nuanced realms of language and pursued a master’s degree in teaching Arabic language before working in proofreading.

Abou Jahjah says: “The fine rules  of accurate scientific writing in research have greatly added to my experience, as I became more careful in choosing my words.”

“And because each individual acquires a myriad of information that enriches and refines his experience throughout the course of  his professional journey, I worked with great  diligence and enthusiasm and edited many scientific research papers and  theses, in addition to electronic articles.”

Alaa continues: “From my humble experience and brief journey in proofreading, here are some tips that will help you on this career path:

  • Research the language and learn its nuanced systems. The depth of the Arabic language and the abundance of its vocabulary make proofreading it more enjoyable and require greater precision.
  • Practice continuously on various texts. Each one has its own style and specific vocabulary.
  • Follow the news of Arabic language academies across the Arab world so that you stay updated on all developments in the language.
  • Combine your creativity with your knowledge and experience, and leave your own mark on your work.
  • Showcase what you do on leading websites such as [LinkedIn], which is an important platform for job hunting in various fields.

You are welcome to reach out to me and I will be happy to assist as much as I can, hoping that I have provided  you with something useful.”

A  proofreader’s job is as important as any other work in writing. Correct linguistic accuracy is an essential aspect of writing that cannot be ignored. Therefore, anyone who wants to pursue a profession in proofreading should be familiar with all the information mentioned in the article.

Coexistence

Coexistence: Concept and Importance

Coexistence

Coexistence: Concept and Importance

The concept of coexistence has evolved along with humanity throughout the ages. Humans went from hiding in caves and isolating themselves to maintain security; to common life in groups. Intellectual similarity and adherence to specific customs and traditions including dress characterized these groups. Therefore, different human societies emerged, and diverse intellectual perspectives were shaped by the experience of each group.

Certainly, a human being living in the forests will not be like a human being living in the icy mountains. Nor will their lifestyles, dress, food, and communication traditions.

There were often clashes between human societies when they met and one tried to take control of the other. Until the concept of humanity evolved, and the concept of coexistence between human societies emerged.

Thus, Human societies that differ religiously, doctrinally, ethnically, and politically never took coexistence as an intellectual luxury. Rather, it has always been and will remain a fundamental pillar in building understanding. Also a dialogue between human societies despite their differences, for the advancement and preservation of humanity.

In this article, we will answer the following questions: What is the concept of coexistence? What is its importance? What are its types and forms? How did civil wars prove that coexistence is the way to survive?

The Concept of Coexistence

Every human being or human group has characteristics and qualities that make it unique and different from its society. Which creates diversity among individuals within their societies and also among societies themselves. This is a natural and healthy condition; it is unnatural for human components to be uniform in one way of thinking or belonging.

To make these differences positive, we had to manage them through the concept of coexistence.

The concept can be defined linguistically as: “Living in love and harmony, or coexistence of people if they are present in the same place and time.” Coexistence is also a society with multiple sects living in peace and harmony despite differences in religions, races, or languages. Peaceful coexistence means an environment in which understanding prevails among different groups of society. This is done without resorting to the use of force.¹

Coexistence is derived from the word (interaction) which indicates the existence of an interrelationship between the coexisting parties.¹

The concept can be defined technically as: “The gathering of a group of people in one place, where they are connected by means of subsistence such as food, drink, and the essentials of life. Regardless of religion or other affiliations, they know their rights and duties without integration or complete fusion.”¹

Therefore, coexistence requires every human being to respect the differences of others (individuals and groups). Even if they contradict his principles and ideas directly.

The Importance of Coexistence

The concept is essential in building societies that are characterized by ethnic, religious, sectarian, economic, and political diversity. As it has many benefits in establishing the pillars of stability and security. In addition to enhancing common interests among the components.

There is no majority that oppresses a minority. But rather a coexistence that involves all kinds of cooperation and mutual respect, on the principle of “no winner and no loser in the homeland”. That is considered the property of all. Different individuals strive to uphold the common interest and consolidate the foundations of their social security by living together to ensure a better future.

Coexistence also enriches societies with new types of thought as a result of the blending of cultures. Which develops humanity and produces new societies.

The Types

There are many types of coexistence that can be classified as follows:

First: Religious coexistence; its manifestations are:

  • Practicing religious rituals openly and freely without fear anywhere.
  • Respecting the different beliefs and their people.
  • Having freedom of religion and choice of religion, sect, or doctrine.
  • Ensuring equality among all residents regardless of their religious affiliation.

Second: Ethnic (social) coexistence; its manifestations are:

  • Protecting minorities and integrating them into all public functions and institutions.
  • Equality of treatment and application of the law to all members of society.
  • The adoption of the largest possible number of languages used in society in official transactions in the state, and in the educational curriculum.

Third: Cultural coexistence; its manifestations are:

  • Integrating cultural diversity into educational curricula.
  • Developing Intercultural competencies that lead to constructive dialogue.
  • Enhancing the informal role of diverse intellectual cultural centers.
  • Expanding the translation movement that broadens the world’s understanding.
  • Freedom of expression of opinion and thought.³

The Forms

As for the forms of coexistence, we should mention the following:

  1. First: “Temporary coexistence”:
In such cases as displacement and asylum, a person is temporarily forced to coexist with a specific group that differs from them in thought and belief.
  2. Second: “Forced coexistence”:
In such situations, a person is obliged to endure until they are accepted into the new group they wish to belong to. And this process requires a great effort.
  3. Third: “Citizenship coexistence”:
Every citizen of any state must be fully committed to dealing well with others and accepting their differences.
  4. Fourth: “Preferred coexistence”:
It is by the choice and free will of the person. Based on his desire to belong to a group that he agrees with or finds some benefit in being with.

How did civil wars prove that coexistence is the way to survive?

Civil wars usually occur as a result of external and internal factors. Which play a destructive and inciting role in pitting a country’s population groups against each other.

The culture of coexistence between human components in that country is absent. Sectarian and doctrinal strife and non-acceptance of the other prevail over understanding and peaceful coexistence. The result is catastrophic for all because it destroys a whole generation. And reinforces the concept of violence and imposing control instead of dialogue to build society.

Ancient and modern history witnessed painful examples of civil wars. Such as the civil war in “Rwanda”. They were able to emerge by prevailing in the concept of coexistence between the warring ethnic groups in the post-war phase.

Rwanda does not have giant oilfields, nor huge mines for precious metals. However, it suffered a tribal conflict, which killed tens of thousands of people, and generated hostility among the people.

Nevertheless, over the last 20 years, the small country has been able to achieve great economic achievements. It was built on the basis of a governmental vision to overcome the Civil War spillover, create a climate of coexistence, and achieve development and prosperity for the people.²

Finally, for a successful family, dialogue and understanding must be the foundation of dealing with its members. For sure there are differences within the same family; between the spouses and the children, but respect for difference strengthens the family as a whole and works to build the personalities of its members. It also helps each of them to express their unique personality and develop it and support their family. What if a society is based on this equation? We have to start with the first brick in society in order to develop and advance the concept of coexistence.

World Health Day

World Health Day

World Health Day

World Health Day

“When you are in prison, you have but one desire: freedom. If you fall ill in prison, you do not think about freedom, you think about health. Health is, therefore, more important than freedom.”
– Alija Izetbegović.

This has manifested to us in its strongest form during the past two years when the whole world suffered from a pandemic that affected all areas of life. This was not the first time global health was at great risk. So it was not in vain to consider (good health and well-being) the third goal of the sustainable development goals.

What is World Health Day

In order to learn more about World Health Day, we will begin by introducing the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO is affiliated with the United Nations and is concerned with matters of health and disease prevention. The World Health Organization was established on 7th April 1948, headquartered in Geneva (Switzerland). Its main objective is the attainment by all people of the highest possible level of health.

Given the importance of health, the anniversary of the founding of this organization was marked as a day to celebrate global health. People around the world celebrate World Health Day through large campaigns and in different ways, but all of them aim at one goal; which is to raise awareness about health issues, and demand the right to health care.

WHO objectives on World Health Day

Through World Health Day, this organization sought to raise awareness about many health topics. Focus on a specific area of concern every year. And over the past fifty years, the organization has shed light on many crucial health issues.

These topics represented the difference between a healthy society and a fragile suffering one. The organization calls on the leaders of countries to work together. In order to respond to health risks threatening their societies. Also, to achieve justice and equality in health care. Among all members of society and of both sexes, from the vulnerable to the most powerful.

It also calls for addressing the inequity faced by the vulnerable sectors of society. And working to collect data that can be relied upon in creating a comprehensive health database. As a step towards improving the level of health care within the society. Also, create an international cooperation whose work transcends national borders.

WHO Achievements

If we look around, we will find many serious and diverse health issues that endanger the lives of many. So the World Health Organization finds an opportunity on World Health Day every year to focus attention on one of these issues. Also, to raise awareness about them, and shed light on their dangers.

Many topics have been discussed on World Health Day over the past years. Including Diabetes and Polio, to larger issues, such as road safety, and climate change’s impact on human health. The last of which was the theme of 2021; Building a fairer, healthier world, as we have witnessed various forms of injustice in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and a disparity in the level of health services among members of the same society and of different countries. COVID-19 has hit all countries hard, but its impact has been harshest on those communities that were already vulnerable.

In 2022, the theme for World Health Day is “Our Planet, Our Health.” Through this campaign, WHO will draw worldwide attention to the measures they should be taking to protect the planet and their health and prioritize the well-being of societies.

How can we contribute to World Health Day?

We all realized the importance of health during the COVID-19 pandemic, which represented the greatest threat to global health in our current time, so it is our responsibility as individuals in this world to do everything we can to improve the conditions and circumstances within this society, and to help others improve theirs.

Therefore, we must begin with ourselves, to ensure our possession of good physical, mental, and social health, through living a healthy life by exercising and following a healthy, balanced diet. Then we turn to help others by donating blood, allocating a little time to volunteer in local associations and international organizations, participating in events that serve certain causes such as breast cancer awareness month events, or donating money to charities that seek to provide health care to those unable to obtain the care they need.

In conclusion, the World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence or absence of disease and infirmity.”

And we, at Uplifting Syrian Women Initiative, care for the mental and social health of Syrian women and aim to improve it and support those in need. We also seek, to the extent our means allow, to provide psychological support to women in need, and highlight the importance of mental health.

Reduced Inequalities – Sustainable Development Goals in Syria

Reduced Inequalities - Sustainable Development Goals

Reducing inequalities has become an urgent necessity all across the world to bridge the existing gap between the members of society. Besides empowering minorities with the aim of taking advantage of their potential. As a result, we have an interdependent society in which everyone is respected and their human rights are protected. It is crucial to lessen the likelihood of conflicts arising within societies to solidify peace and stability among individuals.

Facts about inequality

Inequality is evident in both developed and developing countries. Its aspects are numerous and represented as follows: income disparities, geographical locations, sex, age, and race. In addition to the psychological and physical inadequacy, the sexual orientation and religious beliefs.

According to the United Nations, more than 70% of the world’s population now live in countries that have increased income inequality. This increases the inequality gap between peoples!¹ In the last three decades, one billion people have escaped extreme poverty. On the other hand, there is the poorest half of the population whose income has not changed during this period. Although the global economic output has tripled since 1990!²

The importance of putting an end to inequality

Reducing inequality helps to entrench justice between individuals and protect them from unfairness. Choosing the right people to work based on their skill and experience, apart from their sexual and physical differences. This will create a fair environment for all individuals. Also, this enables them to channel their expertise in the right field that is in everyone’s interest.

This simple procedure helps to build a new community that is free from inequality, insecurity, and all the reasons that ignite conflicts. It also increases the opportunities for acquiring skills facilitating access to economic and social prosperity and reducing inequality among individuals.

Moreover, forms of gender-based violence will stop, to make room for peace and understanding between individuals. All of these reasons lead to a better place for everyone which will reflect on expectancy and quality of life.

Inequality in Syria

After more than ten years of suffering from a lack of resources and a declining economy; the ability to achieve equality in various domains has deteriorated. This has increased gender discrimination. As well as its contribution to entrenching gaps and differences between individuals.

The most prevalent cases of inequality in Syrian society are:

  1. Class Inequality: 80% of people in Syria live below the poverty line. The country has an unemployment rate of at least 55 percent, and jobs are increasingly hard to find. While the majority of the population struggles, a few big business owners have established a monopoly over approximately 75 percent of the economy.³
  2. Gender inequality: Syrian women are suffering from social restraints caused by customs and traditions, hindering them from growing and finding their place. Besides the ongoing war which made things worse. We see how she is affected unfairly in comparison to men, and has to bear extra responsibilities such as: supporting her family alone after losing her spouse in the war or shouldering the responsibility of caring for their children and other family members. The risk of gender-based violence against her increased, and levels of female poverty increased compared to men.⁴

Entities working to reduce inequalities in Syria

  1. Uplifting Syrian Women Initiative:
A digital initiative that seeks to achieve gender equality and empower women by providing training and educational workshops. These trainings provide equal opportunities for both sexes and thus reflect positively on the economic and livelihood conditions in Syria.
  2. Ahmad Humanitarian Project:
A humanitarian medical project that helps low-income people with health care at low cost or free of charge. The project aims to create a healthy society without looking at the class background, thus reducing inequalities in society.
  3. Light Initiative:
An independent, non-profit initiative that seeks to provide fair educational opportunities for the blind. Scientific content is also available in suitable formats, in order to ensure their chance in having proper education during several stages.

A person who lost one of their 5 senses, or who suffers from some physical Impairment, has no less importance than a person with full senses. What distinguishes us as human beings is our humanity, our minds, and our skills, and the basis for the progress of any society begins with justice and ensuring human rights. Therefore, we have to start with ourselves as individuals, to accept and respect others regardless of their physical, racial, and cultural differences, and to deal with mercy and tolerance with all of our fellow human beings.
